Kazu Umeki was born in Tokyo and grew up in the U.S., attending boarding school in Massachusetts. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where he was awarded the Award of Excellence.

In his atmospheric yet intimate work, Kazu employs a range of media to capture fleeting moments of beauty found in everyday life and the natural world. His work has been exhibited in museums, galleries, and commercial spaces across the U.S., including SFMOMA Artists Gallery and the American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA).

Kazu also works in software design and currently serves as co-CEO of DOMU Inc., a tech startup developing real estate software and applications.

He lives and works in San Francisco.
